Francome was National Hunt Champion Jockey seven times between 1976 and 1985. He is the third most successful National Hunt jockey of all time, behind A.P. McCoy and Peter Scudamore. After retiring as a jockey he was a trainer for 18 months before becoming a TV presenter for Channel 4 Racing. He also became a successful author with his books appearing on the bestsellers list.
